You couldn’t get more eccentric. So luxuriant and at the same time so coherent. Who wouldn’t nod here when the shrewd hotel manager talks about the “total piece of art” while leading us to the suite on the second floor? It lives from the bathroom to the bedroom from squeaky-coloured tiles in opulent floral combinations. Altogether there are two million of these in the L´Arlatan – all handmade! And nothing off the peg. Even the wardrobes were specially carved for the L´Arlatan and painted by artists.
The art-loving Hoffmann-La-Roche-heiress and collector Maja Hoffmann, to whom we also owe the Le Cloître and the Luma Foundation in Arles, has digitally planned perfectly and fulfilled her wild dream of a cosmopolitan boutique hotel, which oscillates at serious prices somewhere between Morocco and a Beatles record cover by 70´s. If you’re not afraid of form & colour (and can live with a bathtub instead of a shower), you’ll be happy to sleep here under great lamps from the 3D printer, best after the homemade ravioli and a Negroni.
